Kelly Carney, MD was born in New York and grew up in both North Carolina and Rhode Island. She received her Bachelor of Science from Providence College and returned to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina School of Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency at Carolinas Medical Center Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte. After residency, she completed a fellowship year at Duke University focusing on the post-discharge care of the medically fragile newborn. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Carney met her husband, Matt, in medical school at the University of North Carolina. He is a family medicine physician in Chapel Hill. They have three daughters: Kenna, Kate, and Emilia. In her free time, Dr. Carney enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, reading, cooking, and is an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Raleigh. Her clinical interests include child development and primary care of premature and other special needs infants.
