Our Mission

Your Child's BMI
Are you wondering if your child or teen is overweight? You should know your child's Body Mass Index, also known as BMI. Your child's BMI is a calculation of their weight and height to determine overall health. BMI allows for a close estimation of a person's body fat.

What can I do if my Child or Teen's BMI is 85th percentile or greater:
Children aged 2-7 years
Maintain your current weight, as your grow taller your weight will become more proportionate, meaning your BMI will decrease if your weight stays the same. Eating healthy and becoming more active will help you and your family maintain your current weight.
If complications are identified by your health care professional weight loss may be recommended. Complications include such problems as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Children aged 7 years or older
Weight loss is recommended for all children over 7 years old who are overweight. Your final goal is to have a BMI less than the 85th percentile for your age and gender.
For older children and adolescents who are severely overweight (BMI greater than 35) an acceptable rate of weight loss is 1-2 pounds each week. Your final goal is to have a BMI less than the 85th percentile for your age and gender. Your health care provider will let you know if you fall into this category
Elevated BMI increases risk for:
